Geoff Barrow has claimed that the third Portishead album is nearly completed.

The band's last release was their self-titled LP in 1997.

Writing on the group's website, Barrow said: "I think one more day messing about with it and it will be done. Then into the wonderful world of mastering.

He also claimed they were "working on some artwork and getting the live stuff together".

The influential Bristol trip-hop outfit are due to play the All Tomorrow's Parties festival in December.

Barrow revealed that he is contemplating putting together a football team with fellow headliner Madlib at the event.
