Costello: I've played last gig in England

Elvis Costello has claimed that he doesn't care if he never plays another gig in England.

The veteran rocker, who now lives in New York, believes that UK music fans don't have a "connection" with acts of his age.

He told Mojo: "A lot of good bands still come out of England, but I just don't feel a part of it.

"British music fans don't have the same attitude to age as they do in America, where young people come to check out, say, Willie Nelson.

"They feel some connection with him and find a role for that music in their lives."

Costello cited his performance on the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury in 2005 as the reason behind his decision to turn his back on the country.

He commented: "I don't care if I ever play in England again. That gig made up my mind that I wouldn't come back. I don't get along with it.

"We lost touch. It's 25 years since I lived there. I don't dig it, they don't dig me."
