Kapranos said that the group have been inspired by working on the soundtrack to the movie Hallam Foe and would now be interested in pursuing a musical project once they finish their new album.
The singer told the Daily Record: "After we've finished this album, we're definitely going to look more at doing some other things. Writing for Hallam Foe was a lot of fun.
"We hear Belle And Sebastian were working on a musical film and possibly I'd like to write a musical too. Who knows? Maybe I'll write one for the stage rather than for film."
However, the Scottish rocker revealed that he wouldn't ever step onto the stage himself, commenting: "I wouldn't play the romantic lead. I'd need to get somebody else to do that."
