The 67-year-old, who has so far released nine seasonal songs, said he believes people are no longer interested in who tops the charts over the festive season.
Sir Cliff has scored three Christmas number ones and just missed out on a fourth last year with '21st Century Christmas'.
However, he insisted that he is bowing out of the chart battle this year, saying: "Everybody thinks I'm the only one who releases a record at Christmas but everyone and their mother does one.
"I've got an album out but no single. Singles are such a no-no now - you can't sell them."
