Buddy Holly's widow Maria Elena has launched a lawsuit to stop the publication a memoir written by the woman who inspired his song 'Peggy Sue'.
Peggy Sue Gerron - who was married to Crickets drummer Jerry Allison - claims in her autobiography Whatever Happened to Peggy Sue? that the singer wanted to run away with her.
A letter from Mrs Holly's lawyers states: "Confusion and tarnishment of Buddy Holly's name and Mrs Holly's reputation are likely to result from this unauthorised book."
Maria Elena said: "It's very interesting that this woman makes up all these stories. He never, never considered Peggy Sue a friend."
However, Gerron, 67, countered that she had "every right to write my book - that's why we live in America". She added that her account of her time with the singer was taken from around 150 diary entries written at the time.
Maria Elena, 62, married Holly in 1958. He died in a plane crash the following year at the age of 22.
