Annie Lennox has been dropped by her record label Sony BMG.
The veteran popstar claimed she has been treated badly by the label, and described being axed as a "kick in the teeth".
Lennox said: "It feels like I'm spent, as if I've completely run out of energy. I'm now out of contract with Sony BMG.
"I'm going to take my time over the coming months to figure out what to do with this freedom."
Talking about her treatment by Sony over recent weeks, she said: "They totally ignored me. It was bizarre.
"They didn't even pick up phone calls or emails for three weeks. I'm trying to find out what's behind it."
The singer's last record Songs of Mass Destruction reached number seven in October last year.
