The Yorkshire rocker claimed he would only be annoyed if his band missed out on gongs to their indie rivals.
He argued that it was a privilege to even be compared to mainstream acts like Take That and Girls Aloud, so he could take defeat at their hands more easily.
Wilson told the Daily Star: "I am surprised to be in the same category as Take That and Girls Aloud but it’s exciting.
"You think of them being massive bands, and I think it’s healthy to think of people as bigger than you.
"You can’t really compete with Girls Aloud. But if Editors or Arctic Monkeys win, then I’d be a bit 'grrr'.”
The Leeds band has been nominated for Best Live Act, Best Group and Best Single at this year's awards.
They took away three gongs at the 2006 ceremony for Best Live Act, Best Rock Act and Best Group.
