A leaked memo from SonyBMG has revealed that Jackson's label is keen for the star to perform at the ceremony in LA next month.
Jackson releases a 25th anniversary special edition of his classic album Thriller the day after this year's awards.
Also mentioned in the memo is the possibility of a Jackson TV special, featuring his brothers and a live gig.
Journalist Diane Diamond, who documented Jackson's child molestation trial in her book Be Careful Who You Love - Inside the Michael Jackson Case, told the LA Times she was 90% confident that the pop legend would perform at the event.
