It was previously reported that the reggae group's seven remaining members were unhappy that he had not attempted to resolve his issues with them.
However, his solicitors Hextalls insisted that the singer personally notified each member last November that he could no longer work with their business management team because of unresolved financial issues.
The firm said that the management's failure to provide financial information over a long period was behind his decision, saying: "These issues are the real reasons which have caused [his] departure from UB40. References to Ali Campbell leaving UB40 to pursue a solo career are erroneous and misleading. [His] solo career has been ongoing for more than 13 years."
They claimed that the issue was placing the band's forthcoming concerts in New Zealand, Australia and Uganda at risk, before adding that Campbell "does not intend to enter into media tennis arising out of recent media statements that have been released by others".
He announced earlier this month that he was leaving the band after 30 years.
