It marks the highest debut by a British female artist since Joss Stone's Introducing Joss Stone LP entered the chart at number two in March 2007.
Pocketful of Sunshine, which combines five songs from Bedingfield's UK album N.B. with eight new recordings, sold 50,000 copies in its first week of release.
'Love Like This', the album's lead single, currently sits at number eleven on the US singles chart.
Bedingfield's previous album, 2005's Unwritten, debuted and peaked at number 26 on the US album chart.
