The Beatles' guru Maharishi Mahesh Yogi has passed away, aged 91.

Yogi died of natural causes in his Dutch home overnight, say reports.

He famously taught the Liverpool pop band transcendental meditation during the group's visit to the Himalayas in 1968.

Beach Boy Mike Love, US singer Donovan and actress Mia Farrow were also present at the famous sessions.

Love commented: "His passing is profoundly sad. But I for one am among the millions who are grateful for what he shared with us. We will miss you, but your great light will shine on."

Yogi established a worldwide following during the '60s and '70s despite falling out with the Beatles after he discovered them taking drugs at his home.

A spokesperson for the Global Country of World Peace movement said: "His Holiness Maharishi Mahesh Yogi ... passed away peacefully.

"Maharishi's work is complete. He has done what he set out to do in 1957 - to lay the foundation for a peaceful world. Now, Maharishi is being welcomed with open arms into heaven."
