The announcement from the all-girl band, who go by the name Lez Zeppelin, prompted many online publications to run stories claiming the legendary '70s act would be appearing at the event.
Festival organisers were forced to issue a statement confirming that the real Led Zeppelin would not be performing at the event.
A spokesperson said: "We thought it would be a good idea [to have Lez Zeppelin play]. We've had to make a lot of calls to correct this.
"It seems a lot of people were caught out by the press announcement."
The headliners at the 2008 Bonnaroo festival are Pearl Jam, Metallica, Kanye West and Jack Johnson.
It takes place on June 15-18 and tickets are currently on sale.
