The Babyshambles frontman will play the biggest show of his career at the prestigious venue, which has a capacity of more than 5,500.
Tickets for the April 26 concert will go on sale at 9am on Saturday.
A friend told the Daily Star: “It’s a total turnaround. He was down on his luck and struggling for cash but hopefully those days are behind him now.
“He knows this is make or break. He’s cancelled gigs in the past but he’s got to be on top form for this one.”
The Who, Bob Dylan, Crowded House, Nick Cave and Morrissey are among previous acts to have taken to the stage at the Royal Albert Hall.
Babyshambles bandmate Drew McConnell recently insisted that the group is not worried about Doherty's solo career.
