McCartney almost turned down Brit Award

Sir Paul McCartney has revealed that he nearly turned down his Outstanding Contribution to Music Brit Award.

McCartney was reluctant to accept the honour, often dubbed the Lifetime Achievement Award, telling Xfm: "I try to avoid those 'cause it feels like you're gonna die the next second so it's actually called the Outstanding Contribution [to Music]."

McCartney will perform a medley of hits at tonight's awards show, with Wings' James Bond track 'Live And Let Die' thought to be on the setlist.

The Brit Awards, hosted by Sharon and Ozzy Osbourne, airs tonight on ITV1 at 8pm.
