Speaking to BBC 6Music, the guitarist said he is looking forward to hearing REM play their new Accelerate tracks live: "I am really fired up about this, I'm excited about hearing their new stuff actually, it sounds pretty good what I've heard of it so far."
Marr has recently collaborated with Wakefield indie band The Cribs and revealed he might play with them at the summer festivals.
"If I am in England I will play with them at Reading, they are my favourite UK band," Marr said.
The Cribs teamed up with the former Smiths guitarist earlier in the year to record new material and Marr said "when [Modest Mouse] get back from touring I want to get it finished".
