The group were filming a documentary for the music channel in South Africa when the buffalo, named "One Eye", charged twice at their safari vehicle.
The ordeal was captured on camera and will air on MTV's Diary of Good Charlotte next month.
After the safari jeep accelerated away, Benji Madden said: "That was pretty dope though, you gotta admit, that was pretty dope!"
His twin brother Joel added: "I want to get a copy of that for my home video!"
