Soulja Boy hits back at "mad" critics
Published Monday, Apr 7 2008, 14:35 BST | By Nick Levine

His debut single 'Crank That (Soulja Boy)' sold more than three million downloads after becoming a MySpace and YouTube phenomenon, but many critics dismissed it as mindless and devoid of melody.
Now Soulja has claimed that music journalists are angry because he didn't need their approval to become popular.
He told DS. "What it is, right, is the media think they can control what sells... but it don't work like that. If the public buys three million Soulja Boy records and the media's saying Soulja Boy's garbage, something don't add up.
"They've said my music sucks and I've been successful without them, and that makes them mad."
