Babyshambles drummer Adam Ficek has said the band will continue to stand by Pete Doherty, even though he was given a 14-week prison sentence yesterday.

Ficek claimed he felt "gutted" for the troubled singer but added that the group would "stick with him as always".

He told the BBC: "As far as I see it, I hope we can really look positively on this and when he comes out he can learn from the mistakes he's made and we can persevere with the path that Babyshambles was treading before."

Doherty was sent to jail after he was found guilty of breaching probation guidelines at a hearing in West London Magistrates' Court.

The frontman has postponed a scheduled solo show at the Royal Albert Hall and may not be able to fulfill his slot at the Glastonbury Festival in June unless his sentence is reduced.
