Singer Matt Bowman said the record was unlikely to surface for 18 months, but revealed that the group are always writing new tracks together.
"We've got it if we want to release it," he told NME. "It's written. It will probably come out in about 18 months, but if someone said that tomorrow we had to make a third album and our lives depended on it, we could just go into the studio and do it.
"We're always writing songs. We just like writing music. We don't really sit around playing Xbox - we've always got guitars in our hands."
Bowman said the group struggled to name songs and were only able to come up with titles for their new CD when producer Stephen Street forced them into it.
He added: "Stephen Street used to go 'What's this song called? We were like, 'We don't know, we just call it The One Where Jimmi Plays A Solo He Can't Quite Nail."
Pigeon Detectives release their sophomore album Emergency in May.
