The singer said that when Guns N' Roses' Greatest Hits album was released four years ago, Slash and Duff McKagan almost left Velvet Revolver to reunite with their old group.
He told Classic Rock: "It almost happened. The pens were ready to sign. With the Greatest Hits, there was a possibility [of a reunion], but there was too much stuff being said.
"But it was a close call. I would love to see that happen, as a Guns N' Roses fan. I'd pay to see it."
McKagan refuted Weiland's comments, claiming that the rocker was "really paranoid" about a Guns N' Roses reunion.
Weiland left Velvet Revolver last week because of a conflict with his bandmates. He will perform with his old band Stone Temple Pilots in the summer.
