The band will play Liverpool's Echo Arena on December 10. The show will provide a conclusion to the city's 2008 Capital of Culture celebrations.
It is rumoured the gig will be part of an extensive arena tour from the band. Ticket details have not yet been announced.
Next month the group will play a one-off show at London's Brixton Academy. Fans must register for tickets, which will be given away for free.
Chris Martin's band release their fourth studio album Viva La Vida on June 12.
