Solo star Santogold has hit out at music critics who label her music R&B just because she is black.
The singer, real name Santi White, claimed it is "totally racist" for people to presume she listened to certain music genres as a child.
She told Drowned in Sound: "Everyone is just so shocked that I don't like R&B. Why does R&B keep coming into my interviews?
"It's p***ing me off. I didn't grow up as a big fan of R&B and, like, what is the big shocker? It's stupid."
She added: "It's racist. It's totally racist."
Santogold's self-titled debut album was released last week.
