U2's The Edge has helped to organise an auction of music memorabilia for the victims of Hurricane Katrina.

It is the second year in a row the guitarist has put together the fundraiser with the help of Julien's Auctions.

The event, which is held at the Hard Rock Cafe in Times Square, New York on May 31, will feature items that were owned by The Ramones, Kurt Cobain, Elton John and Cher.

A spokesperson for Julien's Auctions said: "Last year we had 200 lots and The Edge was so impressed with the auction and the proceeds we raised he gave us a mandate to do bigger and better things this year.

"Quite honestly there's something for everyone and we don't want people to think they can't get something because there are some very affordable items."
