The Australian rocker is attempting to raise £29,000 for the life-sized work, which will depict him riding a horse.
Plans for the statue initially surfaced in 2001, when Cave said he wanted Corrin Johnson, the sculptor responsible the Princess Diana Memorial, to create it in the UK.
He told Q that he was still keen on the idea seven years on, saying: "It would feel like a very exotic journey if I did make it back home as a bronze statuette. I don't dwell on it. I'm not going to pretend it's not satisfying in some ways. But there's a lot of work to do yet."
The monument would be placed on the main street in Warracknabeal in Victoria, Australia.
