Eavis: 'We've shaken up Glastonbury'

Michael Eavis has reiterated his confidence in a changed approach to the Glastonbury Festival.

The organiser said he hopes a "whole cultural mix of people" will attend and again rejected criticism of the choice of Jay-Z for a headlining slot.

"Everywhere I go kids come up to me in the street and say it's fantastic Jay-Z is playing," Eavis told the Press Association. "Lovely kids in their teens. And I say, 'Have you bought tickets?' and they say, 'No, but we're all coming!'

"We need a whole cultural mix of people. We need an age mix and a cultural mix. That's what we're looking for. This is a huge success, it really is. It's never been so talked about."

Eavis, who also owns the worthy Farm site in Somerset, continued: "For 38 years, we were just kept going, drumming along in the same old sweet ways. But we've put changes in this year which have really shaken up the concept of it. It's a great occasion."
