Röyksopp ft. Robyn 'The Girl And The Robot'

Röyksopp ft. Robyn 'The Girl And The Robot'
Released on Monday, Jun 29 2009

Debut album Melody AM might have have shifted over a million copies and given Röyksopp worldwide recognition, but all too quickly it became background music for dentist waiting rooms and early evening soirees. Thankfully, the Norwegian duo ditched the plodding beats and general air of ambient pleasantness for third LP Junior, opting instead to produce an all-out electropop extravaganza featuring collaborations with some of Scandinavia's finest vocalists - The Knife's Karin Dreije, Lykke Li and, on new single 'The Girl And The Robot', the ever-gratifying Robyn.

Opening with haunting choral vocals and a bassline resembling a looming thunderstorm, 'The Girl And The Robot' soon lures you in with a quirky and charming tale of Robyn romancing an android. "I just sit here by the phone, don't deny me, call me back, I'm so alone," she sings with such emotional clout that it might offer a clue as to where she's been of late. Though not as instant as her 2007 chart-topper 'With Every Heartbeat', the explosion of swirling synths and edgy electropop beats on display here is ample compensation. It's unfortunate then, that with little mainstream support, news of the affair looks likely to be limited to a few die-hard fans.
