Shakira: 'She Wolf'

By
Shakira: 'She Wolf'
Released on Monday, Sep 21 2009

Believe it or not, but it's been nearly 20 years since Shakira began peddling her pop wares across Latin America. Since then she's shifted over 50 million albums and scored the century's biggest-selling hit with 'Hips Don't Lie' - helped no doubt by her gravity-defying belly-dancing and that "small and humble" physique. It's no surprise, therefore, that anticipation surrounding her return reached fever pitch this summer.

Fortunately, comeback track 'She Wolf' more than lives up to expectations. With a pounding bassline reminiscent of '70s disco, a chorus that combines over-dubbed vocals with clubby synths, and a smattering of heavy panting throughout, this manages to be fresh and quirky while still sounding like a smash. A tricky feat to pull off - but that's what happens when a great popstar fervently follows her own unique evolutionary path.
