Justin Bieber: 'One Time'

Justin Bieber: 'One Time'

If you're feeling a bit sad and saggy after the season of excess - who knew chocolate-covered cranberries could make an acceptable breakfast? - look away now. It's time to introduce Justin Bieber, a Canadian teen-pop phenom who's almost impossibly fresh-faced, not yet 16 and already popular enough to cause a stampede in a shopping mall.

'One Time', one of four US hits he's racked up since July, is a perfect introduction to his sound - not the bubblegummy pop/rock favoured by the current crop of Disney teen stars, but rather an eggwhite-light take on contemporary R&B. It's not remotely original, but Bieber croons cutely in a cusp-of-puberty kinda way and the chorus is ingratiating enough. Plus, there's something quite sweet about hearing him sing "shawty" - because, well, the sort of girls he goes for probably do top out at around the 5'2 mark.
