Scissor Sisters: 'Fire With Fire'

By
Scissor Sisters 'Fire With Fire'
Released on Monday, Jun 21 2010

Cher's entire 1987-1991 oeuvre aside, there aren't many tunes as suited to packed football stadiums as they are to sweaty Soho dancefloors. However, on this terrific trailer for their upcoming Night Work album, the Scissor Sisters – with a little help from Kylie/Killers/Madge producer Stuart Price – may just have nailed that elusive Wembley-meets-Heaven sound.

Beginning in Elton-like piano ballady fashion, 'Fire With Fire' builds steadily towards a thumping great chorus that could goad even the most apathetic of listeners into pumping their fists with gusto. Naturally, Jake Shears sells it with the confidence of a Camden spliff-pusher. The result actually sounds a bit like U2 covering early '90s Pet Shop Boys – and before you ask, no, we don't mean the other way round; that, of course, has already been done.
