Eliza Doolittle: 'Rollerblades'

By
Eliza Doolittle 'Rollerblades' cover
Released on Monday, Oct 18 2010

'Pack Up' pretty much nailed the whole breakthrough hit thing, bedding down in the top ten for six weeks, ushering Eliza Doolittle's debut album towards silver status and earning the ultimate pop crossover seal of approval - a regular place on X Factor montage scenes. Then again, it was the perfect song for strolling around the park and soaking up the last of the summer sunshine to.

This follow-up isn't as perky, nor quite as catchy truth be told, but it's still got oodles of just-quirky-enough charm. A melancholy-but-optimistic pop clip-clop, it finds the moniker-borrowing songbird urging her dithering boyfriend to grow a pair. "We got to run with it, it will get better," she sings on the middle 8, delivering the melody with a lovely ache in her voice. Actually, you know what, this might just be the perfect song for strolling around the park and watching the autumn leaves fall to.
