Tinie Tempah ft. Kelly Rowland: 'Invincible'

By
Tinie Tempah feat. Kelly Rowland 'Invincible'
Released on Monday, Dec 27 2010

The story goes that Tinie Tempah's hook-up with Kelly Rowland came about because he was a bit of a Destiny's Child fan back in his, ahem, tinier days. So much so, in fact, that he battled his label to release this track above other cuts from his chart-topping debut. If that wasn't appetite-whetting enough, when the man in question describes the song as "similar to everything I grew up listening to from Kelly, Beyoncé and Michelle", it's hard for us not to get very excited indeed.

Question. Does 'Invincible' live up to the impeccably high standards of Bouncy and co.? Well, it's got a suitably bump n' grind-able beat, brassy horns and a bold message about about love conquering all, but in truth we're inclined to side with his label on this one. Lyrics about the "highest mountains" and "driest deserts" backed by a lighter-than-air trance riff might be reminiscent of the girls in album track mode back in 2001, but after his forward-looking recent d'n'b-cum-electropop efforts, we'll take the 2010 Tinie any day.
