Yasmin: 'Finish Line'

Songs about breaking up are about as common as vajazzling salons in Brentwood, but the ability to dress one up as a cool and sophisticated pop track often proves a feat too great for even the most established of artistes. Cue up-and-coming singer-songwriter Yasmin Shahmir, who, just two singles into her pop career, has managed to nail it.

"Our time has been running out/ And there ain't no way to catch it now," she admits over soft, trip-hoppy drums and heart-warming synths helmed by oh-so-trendy hitmaker Labrinth - her radio-friendly vocal sounding calm and collected rather than remorseful. "I think we should face it/ We've both been complacent/ There's no point trying to save it," she continues. If it weren't for the utterly heartbreaking bridge, we'd think she was made out of stone.
