Duke Dumont 'I Got U' review: 'Packed with all the summer essentials'

With winter (sort of) out the way, it's time for artists to put forward their submissions for this year's summer smash. Getting in there early is London producer Duke Dumont, who pulled a similar trick almost exactly a year ago with 'Need U (100%)', which went on to top the charts. And in the absence of an album from the DJ over the past 12 months, his follow-up is essentially the equivalent of 'that difficult second album'.

Naturally, 'I Got U' is packed with all the summertime essentials: steel drums, Balearic synths and a myriad of earworm hooks, one of which is an interpolation of Whitney Houston's 'My Love Is Your Love'. It's a brave choice of sample for a dance track, but Dumont's reworking is sensitive enough that the essence of the original isn't lost; particularly the delivery from the mystery vocalist, which at times is hauntingly similar to Whitney's. As potential 2014 summer smashes go, this is the song to beat.
