Chris Brown: 'With You'

By
Chris Brown: 'With You'
Released on Monday, Mar 24 2008

In the States, Chris Brown is a platinum-selling R&B sensation: the guy to call when you're planning a Michael Jackson tribute at an awards show or remixing 'Umbrella' into a male/female duet. Over here, where he's cracked the top ten just once, with 'Run It!' in 2006, he's often seemed like a budget Usher.

'With You', already a number two smash across the Atlantic, should do wonders for his UK profile. A pretty, folk-tinged R&B ballad, it's a kissing cousin to Beyoncé's 'Irreplaceable' and Rihanna's 'Hate That I Love You', also produced by Norwegian hitmakers Stargate. The lyrics won't be troubling the Ivor Novello judges any time soon ("With every kiss and every hug, you make me fall in love"), but its chorus is pretty enough to make us turn a deaf ear.
