Utah Saints: 'Something Good 08'

Utah Saints: 'Something Good 08'
Released on Monday, Mar 17 2008

The name Utah Saints - for people of a certain age - throws up images of smiley-faced T-shirts, clubbers with bulging eyeballs and sweaty men dancing to their hearts' content at illegal raves in warehouses. Their big hit came in 1992 with 'Something Good' – a song that featured a Kate Bush sample and the pounding, explosive, stupidly simple intro: "Utah Saints, U-U-U Utah Saints!" 16 years later Jez Willis and Tim Garbutt have decided to re-release it, much to the delight of every crusty raver still 'avin' it large' in clubland.

Re-mixed by Van She Tech, 'Something Good' may have lost its famous opening gambit, but other than that it's just as infectious and head-poppingly exciting as it was over a decade ago. With Bush's warbling vocals spliced between the tub-thumbing Utah beats, the chorus remains a prime slab of blissful dance music genius. In fact, unlike many of their contemporaries, Utah Saints' work has aged quite gracefully. Admittedly, this has been spruced up by noughties tech-wizards, but it's the original's tumbling beats and clunking keyboards that will have you re-learning those 'Big-Fish Little-Fish' dance moves.
