X Factor winner Joe McElderry has secured the Christmas number one spot in Ireland, beating off competition from Rage Against The Machine.

The 18-year-old's debut solo song 'The Climb' spends a second week at the chart summit, while Rage's 'Killing In The Name' also holds steady at number two.

On Sunday, it was announced that McElderry had failed to top the Christmas chart in the UK following a Facebook campaign for 'Killing In The Name' to get the prestigious position instead.

Lady GaGa's 'Bad Romance', the X Factor finalists' charity song 'You Are Not Alone' and Black Eyed Peas' 'Meet Me Halfway' take up the final three positions in this week's top five.

Meanwhile, Cheryl Cole's latest single '3 Words', a collaboration with Peas star will.i.am, enters the top ten for the first time, moving up eight spots to number seven.
