The 19-year-old has been working on the LP since he was announced as the winner of last year's X Factor.
He told fans via Twitter: "So guys!!! I'm excited to confirm that my album will be out Oct 25!!! (sic). I can't wait for you all to hear it!! Woooooo!"
McElderry also corrected press reports about who he had worked with on the record.
"Some people have misheard what I said on my website video!" he wrote.
"Too funny. What I said was: 'I've been working with some amazing people that have worked with some fantastic acts such as Rihanna, Pussy Cat Dolls, Enrique Iglesias, Cher - I'm so excited about everything!'.
"Maybe it's my silly accent... but I was saying that the Producers I'm working with had worked with these amazing acts - not me!!"
The October release date follows the same pattern used by X Factor winners Leona Lewis, Leon Jackson and Alexandra Burke. All three also used the first live show to promote their respective LPs' trailer singles.
McElderry and Simon Cowell have both promised that the album will "surprise" fans.
Details of his next single have yet to be announced.
