Matt Cardle has said that he does not mind that One Direction released original material before him.

The 2010 X Factor winner was previously reported as saying that Simon Cowell was "naughty" for letting One Direction release 'What Makes You Beautiful' before his track 'Run For Your Life'.

"Obviously they were going to release before me," Cardle has now told Metro.

"We all knew that and it doesn't bother me. I was misquoted saying it did - but it really doesn't. I am happy for the guys."

Of his future prospects compared to former male winners Joe McElderry and Shayne Ward, Cardle added: "Nothing is a given. Just because I am older doesn't mean I am going to get an easier ride.

"I have a bit more life experience and a lot more to write about than some of these other kids, so I hope that will see me through."
