Courtney Love offers Nirvana track to 'X Factor's Janet Devlin

By
Courtney Love has seemingly given Janet Devlin permission to cover a Nirvana track in a bid to win The X Factor.

The widow of Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain, Love tweeted Simon Cowell yesterday to suggest an idea for the Irish singer.

Love said: "@SimonCowell you want some Nirvana songs? @JanetJealousy is from same town as Kurt? I have the perfect idea for that, call me babe."

Cobain's ancestors hail from the village of Inishative in Northern Ireland, while Devlin is from the neighbouring village of Gortin.

The offer is said to have stunned the show's bosses as getting permission to use iconic tracks on in the competition can be a tough process, reports The Sun.

Love - who inherited the rights to Nirvana's songs following Cobain's death in 1994 - is usually selective about how the band's classic hits are used.

The move will also annoy Nirvana fans who have started a Facebook campaign to get the group's anthem 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' to the Christmas number one spot over the X Factor winner's single.

The X Factor quarter-final airs on Saturday (November 26) at 8pm on ITV1 and will have a Heroes and Guilty Pleasures theme.
