Rebecca Ferguson: 'I feared being forgotten after X Factor'

Rebecca Ferguson has admitted that she was terrified of being forgotten after The X Factor.
The 'Nothing's Real But Love' singer said she felt an added pressure to make a name for herself after losing the show's 2010 series to Matt Cardle.

"I am quite shy and very quiet, but I can be assertive when it comes to things I believe in," she told the BBC. "And I've found in this business you have to be quite assertive.
"You have to take a step back when you become the runner-up, and that's what I had to do. There was a definitely a fear. I thought, 'Am I going to be forgotten?'"
The 25-year-old added that she was further motivated by her desire to make a better life for her two children.
"Everything you do is for them, so when you're making your decisions you've got two other people to think about," she said. "I find that gives me the extra kick to stand up for myself."

Although label bosses were impressed by her vocal abilities, Ferguson said she had to fight to prove herself as a songwriter as well.
"There was an assumption that maybe I wouldn't be the best writer," she recalled. "I'd arrive at the studios and the songs were already written for me.
"All the songs came quite naturally... I find it really, really easy. If someone plays me a melody, I can write the song. I'm very quick. Very instinctive."
Ferguson is set to kick off her first UK tour in February and will release her debut album Heaven in the US this year.
