The Liverpudlian singer finished runner-up to Little Mix in last year's series under Barlow's guidance, and has continued to work with the Take That star on his debut album.
"I look up to him like he's my dad. He's unbelievable, such a nice guy," he told The Sun. "I speak to him all the time - I called the other day just to check in."

Collins revealed recently that Barlow's fellow X Factor judge Tulisa Contostavlos has recorded one of his songs.
"I wrote a song for Tulisa, which she recorded before she knew me, before I auditioned for the show or anything," he said. "I think it was going to be her first solo single.
"I started singing the song. She was looking at me like, really confused, and asked how I knew that song. I said, 'Because I wrote it, love - it's one of mine'."
Collins's debut single 'Seven Nation Army' is released on March 4. His self-titled album will follow on March 12.
