Lucy Spraggan has reportedly hired lawyers to stop cover versions of her songs being sold.

Several unauthorised versions of the X Factor star's self-penned tracks have appeared on iTunes, and have slowly climbed up the download chart this week.

Spraggan's original songs had already charted high, but were taken off the service earlier this month due to X Factor rules.

'Tea and Toast' - the song Spraggan performed at Boot Camp - has risen to as high as number 36 by a collective named Big Hits 2012.

Their version of 'Last Night (Beer Fear)' is currently sitting at 62, with each track selling at 79p.

Speaking about the cover versions, Spraggan told The Sun: "It's disappointing to see other people making money off the back of my music.

"I just want to assure people I don't endorse these recordings in any way, and thank fans for their continued support."

The practice of companies releasing similar sounding cover versions before the original is available has occurred several times in recent months.

A group named Precision Tunes managed to score a top ten hit with their cover of Maroon 5's 'Payphone' in April.
