Since 2008, the X Factor finalists have released a cover version to raise money for a selected charity, with each release so far reaching number one.
Last year, the 2011 finalists hit the top spot with their cover of Rose Royce's 'Wishing on a Star' for the Together For Short Lives charity group. There have also been covers of Mariah Carey's 'Hero', Michael Jackson's 'You Are Not Alone' and David Bowie's 'Heroes'.
However, Cowell's record label is instead planning to make this year's winner's single a charity record.
Tabloid reports have claimed that the move has been made in order to give the winner an extra chance of being this year's Christmas number one, after missing out to the Military Wives last year.

However, official reps for the show insisted to Digital Spy that a final decision on scrapping the finalists' single has not been made yet.
An X Factor spokesperson told DS: "No decision has been made about charity single at the moment."
The X Factor winner's single will be released on December 16 after the final has come to an end.
The X Factor continues with a number ones-themed show on Saturday (November 3) at 8.20pm on ITV1.
