'When You Believe', a reworking of the Mariah Carey / Whitney Houston duet, sold more than 275,000 copies in its first seven days despite some delays with its availability.
Although the track holds the accolade for the fastest selling single of 2007, its first week total is under half that managed by Leona Lewis for 'A Moment Like This' in the same week of 2006.
Last week's number one, the Eva Cassidy / Katie Melua duet 'What A Wonderful World', falls to two on sales of 60,000.
Elsewhere, Sugababes rise to 13 with 'Change' and Kate Nash scrapes a top 40 placing with 'Pumpkin Soup'.
