"We are delighted Cheryl has said yes. We hope she will draw even more viewers mid-run," a BBC insider said.
Cole's performance means she will have appeared on both Strictly and rival show The X Factor this year, following her upcoming role as a guest mentor at Judges' Houses with Gary Barlow - to be screened this weekend.
She will also reunite with her Girls Aloud bandmate Kimberley Walsh - who is taking part as a contestant in Strictly Come Dancing - if she is still in the competition at the time.
Walsh recently revealed that Cole "pushed" her into appearing on this year's show.
