The double A-side 'Get Up On The Dance Floor/Headz Up' looks likely to miss the top ten position that Simon Cowell had been anticipating.
Midweek sales figures show that the single shifted 2,398 copies, according to The Sun.
"George’s bid for chart glory has got off to the worst start imaginable," a source told the newspaper.
"It’s been a complete cock-up and the atmosphere in the Syco offices are toxic.
"This launch has been planned meticulously for months and for it to go this badly wrong is a really bitter pill to swallow.
"There’s every chance somebody’s going to be for the high jump over all of this."
Leona Lewis missed out last week after 'Run' failed to be released digitally.
