The boyband star, who is a judge on the new Five reality show, said that the group are currently in negotiations with their record company so they will be unable to appear together.
"They asked us to come on and do the show with Blue. But we are still in negotiations with our record company," James explained at the programme's launch yesterday.
Speaking about the current status of the band, he added: "We're currently in talks with EMI because we're still signed with them. Even if we wanted to go to another label, we couldn't. So EMI have the option to pick us up right now and they seem really excited about what we're doing right now.
"The plan is to go to LA to record it in September. A new single to come out next year, with an album and tour."
The four-piece, who consist of James, Lee Ryan, Simon Webbe and Anthony Costa, reunited last year for the Capital Summertime Ball.
Don't Stop Believing starts on Sunday at 7pm on Five.
