An independent record label has confirmed that On With The Show, a collection of songs recorded by Lambert before his Idol appearance, will be available later this year.
Speaking to E! News, the star said: "The work I did back then in no way reflects the music I am currently in the studio working on.
"When I was a struggling artist, I was hired as a studio singer to lend my vocals to tracks written by someone else. I was broke at the time and this was my chance to make a few bucks."
The first single from the collection, 'Wait', has already been streamed across fan websites.
However, the CEO of the record label has defended his decision to release the disc, saying: "We saw that it was the right thing for fans to hear this music. We're doing everything on the highest level, from the mixes to how we're promoting it."
Lambert is currently working with Lady GaGa's producer RedOne on his official debut album, expected in the autumn.
