The American Idol champion said that the track, which is a cover of Irish rockers The Script, was one of the first songs he considered for release.
"[The song] was actually one that we had listened to really early on, and we kind of just fell in love with it. Everyone did," he told New York's Z100 morning radio show.
After hearing the track being played on air, he added: "It was really cool. You dream of this day, you dream of having a single out and having it on the radio, so this was a cool day."
Allen, who is a self-confessed Beatles fanatic, also revealed that he is hoping to travel to the UK soon so that he can visit famous landmarks relating to the Liverpool pop legends.
"I hope I get the time. I will totally [take a picture of me crossing Abbey Road]," he said.
'Live Like We're Dying' is released on September 29. His currently-untitled major label debut album will follow on November 17. American Idol runner-up Adam Lambert releases his RCA Records debut on November 24.
