More than 1,500 viewers reportedly complained after the American Idol star kissed a male musician and simulated sex during his performance of new track 'For Your Entertainment'.
Speaking on CBS's The Early Show, he said: "I admit I did get carried away, but I don't see anything wrong with it.
"I do see how people got offended and that was not my intention. My intention was to interpret the lyrics of my song and have a good time with it."
He went on to say: "If it had been a female pop performer doing [the] moves that were on the stage, I don't think there would be nearly as much of an outrage. I think it's because I'm a gay male."
Lambert also claimed that he had not been thinking about the possibility of children watching because his appearance aired at around 11pm.
He added that he had not rehearsed some of the more controversial elements of his performance beforehand - leading ABC to admit it was surprised by the content - and that he would know to do so in the future.
